The 40th anniversary event is expected to attract over 500 competitors. Steve was nominated for an Order of Australia medal in 2014 for significant service to athletics as a marathon runner, administrator and mentor to young athletes, and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2021. Steve has a long successful history in the sport with many achievements from his early teens up to now, including four Commonwealth Games appearances and is the only male to have won the Sydney City to Surf four times in succession.” ![]() “We are very lucky to have a team of dedicated regular participants and supporters who have worked hard behind the scenes to secure Steve’s support for the event. The event has truly cemented its place on the national marathon calendar, and we plan on making the 2022 event a bigger and better event, of which Steve’s support will assist in us doing just that.” “I am thrilled to have Steve Moneghetti on board as event Ambassador for the 40th Pichi Richi Marathon. Greg Flint, Mayor of The Flinders Ranges Council said that it is a huge honour to have someone with Steve’s history and credibility in the sport there on the day to support and promote the event. To celebrate this achievement a dedicated group of event supporters and participants have worked hard to secure Stephen (Steve) Moneghetti, AM to be an event day ambassador.
